NaNoWriMo 2017

I love writing, I’ve worked at a self-publishing company for six years, and I’ve never finished a book I’ve written.

This isn’t an edition of “2 truths and a lie” because they’re ALL TRUE. It’s a bit silly to me that I do enjoy writing so much, but I’ve never actually finished a novel I’ve started. I’m going to challenge myself next month, as you may have seen on my Facebook.

November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). Each year, writers all over the world come together to tackle the challenge: write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days.

Procrastinating, lazy Brittany is side-eying this endeavor. But this whole plan was orchestrated by the launch your own business, step out of your comfort zone Brittany, so here we are.

To date, and this is just on my iPhone, I have 10 different stories that I’ve started. Most in very early stages, some thousands of words in progress. Why haven’t I finished any? Lots of reasons I’m sure, but I think the main thing is that I’ve never set a goal to finish.

You see, story writing is purely cathartic for me. It relaxes me, it amuses me when I’m upset, it allows me to live in another world when things are chaotic in mine. It allows me to express how I feel using characters at times when I can’t verbally express my emotions. The endgame has never been for me to publish and make lots of money from being a novelist... but, what if?

Before I get ahead of myself, let me actually finish a book! Is any brave soul willing to take the challenge with me? I’ll post updates on my progress throughout the month of November.

Wish me luck!
